STRATEGIC HIRING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

We all have one stop when it comes to job seeking and hiring. Yes, it’s SOCIAL MEDIA (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Whatsapp, Instagram, Google hangouts, Pinterest, Snapchat and so on...), The acceptance and response is huge in such platforms. Everything gets noticed rapidly and spreads like fire. No wonder why we prefer staying updated on such social boards. Though job portals still dominate the hiring world, social media is no behind.  Using social media to hire is a little tricky and not all would be pro in that. But the results achieved are definitely worth the effort.

Important aspect to consider here is that these platforms have different users and serve different purposes. As a hiring representative one should consider the demographics of users of each of these social media. It should be strategically thought when you are planning to hire from social media as the user base makes a lot of difference.

Let’s know some interesting facts about few platforms and how to use it as a recruitment tool.
Facebook:

According to recent reports of 2016, it is identified that there are more than 142 million Monthly Active Users in India itself and billions worldwide. Though it is not considered as a professional site, overlooking it is also not wise. As recruiters one should always be aware of the active presence of their target audience. The male audience covers 70% and females cover 30% while the dominating age groups are 19 – 24 and 25 – 35.
How you can use Facebook to search for required people:
  • Ø  Go to Facebook, you will find the search bar on top of the page. Type your query in the box.
  • Ø  You can type for the “employer”, “job function”, “location” randomly and go for the results.
  • Ø  Now when the result page is open, select the “people” tab from the top bar options.
  • Ø  You can find all the results available on the page and then you can go and connect with them offline for further communication.

LinkedIn:
LinkedIn is the most popular social site in the corporate world. India has the 2nd highest number of LinkedIn users after the US with the population of 35 million (approx) people. Top 5 industries to which members belonged to in the Asia Pacific region are IT & Services, Telecommunications, Oil & Energy, Banking & Financial Services and Hospitality.

When you post for any recruitment drive, ensure you upload a relevant image communicating your requirement. As it is found that the views increase by 11 times by including a photo. When you compare the male-female user ratio, it stands at 56% and 44% respectively. You can search candidates by putting your all query directly in the search bar or going for advanced search is also a better option.

Twitter:
When it comes to population, twitter is also one of the most popular social sites amongst its users. It has close to 300 million monthly active users till date. 90% users are below the age of 35. Quite young must say.
Unlike LinkedIn, where a contact has to accept the invitation, twitter is an open community that allows you to follow anyone, connect with them, tweet them and add them to your list. Only drawback that we see in twitter is you cannot tweet using more than 140 characters at a time. Ensure you have good number of followers to have maximum views on your tweet.

There are different ways to attract talent on twitter:
·         You can advertise your job opening with some good catchy lines and a link to your website’s career page.
·         Use hash tags with similar or related words to your job openings for eg. If hiring for Sales Manager #sales #manager #salesmanagerjobs #hiringsalespeople etc.
·         Announce your company updates everytime and keep the audience on toe.
·         Keep a track on your followers and ask for references directly by messaging them.

Instagram:
Instagram is an image based app that allows the users to enhance the photos they have taken and further share it with their friends and followers. There are 500 million Monthly Active Users of Instagram today and 300 million users every day. As it is owned by Facebook, the popularity of the app and the engagement of the users are high.

Companies can today use Instagram to increase their brand visibility amongst its users. Following tips can be used to grab the attention of the target audience
·
You can use photos and short videos of your company stuff like birthday celebrations, events, parties, special days, festivals. Photos and Videos tend to grab eyeballs more often than the traditional way of marketing during closed interview.
·        Posting of jobs with a lot of related hashtags also work. You can add your employees into the same and that will reach out to their followers as well.
·
You have to understand your audience well and what do they need from you. Once you have the answer for this, I’m sure you’re gonna deal it better.
·         Key is to stay unique, be creative and keep the audience engaged in your post.
We are not sure if we can find the potential candidate right from the Instagram but this platform should be used majorly for branding your company. More and more followers can give way to some handful of right talent.
All these platforms when combined together with a strategic plan of recruitment will give you a lot of potential talent that is way more than your traditional database. Using it in a right way should definitely yield results.

What are the most frequently asked Behavioral Interview Questions? Behavioral interview questions are a big part of most job interviews. Employers and hiring managers use these types of questions in order to get an idea if you have the skills and competencies needed for the job. The rationale is that if they know how you performed in the past it will help give a sense of how you might do in the future. For you as the candidate, you’ll need to prepare answers (basically “interview stories”) that highlight the different competencies and skill sets the employer is looking for. The problem is most candidates might have a general idea of how to answer these questions, but the answers usually come out way too long and unfocused, and won’t put the candidate in the best light. That’s why you’ll need to make a concerted effort to create these stories and adapt them to the relevant competencies. Below is a list of some common behavioral...
